The Way a Coach Should Handle the Kids

by Shelby M. Forrest

In a topsy turvy loose moral world,
Where values are weak, it would seem
A coach can greatly influence young lives
By examples he sets for his team.

A good coach will teach the kids values of life
Those values he knows in his heart -
That honor and honesty, fairness and truth
Are traits to them he should impart.

Sportsmanship, teamwork and the care that is shown
To others in life are the same
As the traits that a caring coach wants to induce
His players to use in the game.

He will always teach them to try to excel
In the sport when they're contending,
And the manner in which they compete in the game
Is more important than winning.

It is our good fortune to have such a coach
With our less than ten year olds
Teaching character as well as the rudiments
Of soccer in achieving their goals.
