How do You Know When a Friend is a Friend?
by Shelby M. Forrest

Two young teenage girls from competitive schools
In the same softball league they do play
Little did they know that they would become
Such very good friends one day.

In a summer softball league they did find
That they would both play together.
And soon it appeared the two of them were
Like two little birds of a feather.

So Kristi and Meghan played on the same team,
And their friendship increasingly grew.
Together they laughed, and their secrets did share
That theirs was true friendship they knew.

Just how does one know when a friend is a friend?
Is there a seed planted to grow?
It is something for which there is no proof required.
It is something you feel and just know.

Though the girls will return to their separate schools
Their memories will eer be retained
And they will both know, though naught need be said,
A lasting friendship has been gained.
