POEMS
by Carol Belloc

Maclean Is One

Wee Maclean with laughing eyes
Marking out his fiefdom,
His territory's wide and high
His subjects ten and then some.
He numbers horses, dogs and cats
Within his mighty clan,
And coaxes them with balls and bats
This clever little man.

Mac ranges o'er his hearth and home
Give up his quests? He won't!
It's his birthright; he'd free to roam
And shout No! No! No! Don't!
For every subject who does dare
Impede his Lordship's way,
Receives at once his baleful stare
Disfavour is their pay.

But when the night is drawing nigh
Warm dinner now is ready,
He serves up smiles and waves bye-bye
to cuddle up to Teddy.
He goes so sweetly off to sleep
With singing Mickey Mouse,
His dreams are sweet and soft and deep
Within his happy house.

GILLIAN KIER

Enchanted smiles,
Whispered wisdom in shell ears

Transcendent spirit
Irridescent bubble, covert mirth

On the fly,
Linnet sweet
Impassioned evening song

Cradled in love,
Elfin immortality!
