WHOLE WORLD
by ZEINA
Age 8

I'm walking by...
Just a cold winter day
I look behind me..
I'm not afraid..
Just think about..
Things that you heard...
When I turn around...
The whole world is following me
Why is the whole world following me?
How can it be
Just let me be
Think about the things
That you heard because
The whole world is following me
How can this be..
One day I walk down the street
And who do I meet.. the whole world
Again
But this time it is not following me
How great can this be!

A Metaphor Poem
by Allie-Jayne
Age 11

Moods are places you go,
when you're happy, to heaven,
when you're sad to hell.
You swing from mood to mood,
as Tarzan swings on the vines of the jungle
Singing away you are happy,
then crack, a glass breaks on the floor
as you think of something sad,
your mood changes.

A CANDLE OF LOVE
by Sameena E
Age 11

This Candle Burns over the land,
This Candle Burns in your Hand.

Burning gently making light.
Burning softly but very bright.

Guiding you in the dark and rain,
So beautiful that I can barely explain.

Making light from dark skies above,
Providing you with warmth and love.

It sometimes flickers and sometimes stays,
In the light and in the rays.

It burns in the day and in the night,
It is quite a magical sight.

This candle isn't silver and gold.
This candle isn't new or old.

It will shine from sea to shining sea,
This candle is love coming from me.

TAKING THE CREDIT
by Sameena E
Age 11

I never take the credit
I know it's very rude
I never take the credit
Even when in a bad mood.

And early in the morning
When I make some jam and toast
My mom will thank my brother
But I will never boast.

When my sister and I
Make our room very clean
I'll say "Her side looks better!"
And I won't be mean.

When my brother and I
Make a very good cake
I'll say, "He's the one
That can really bake!"

When I break my mother's
Favorite vase or
Spill Nail Polish
All over the place

I won't take the credit
Or throw a fit
I'll simply point at my sister
And say, "She did it!"

AFRAID
by Kalyn
age 10

I was afraid to meet you
When I met you
I was afraid to like you
When I liked you
I was afraid to love you
When I loved you
I was afraid to lose you!!

GRAND CANYON
by Emily

Red rocks layer after layer rise from the bottom of the
Grand Canyon like walls of old brick apartment buildings
shattered windows glinting in sunlight faded paint peeling

DOGS
by Zenith

Good dogs.
Fluffy, naughty.
They are cute and chubby.
Don't you know they are mischievous.
Lively.

CLOWNS
by Jamie Lauren
age 7

When I go to the circus I see the clowns
juggling balls and jumping around

With funny white faces and a big nose,
A red fire truck with a rubber hose

They were squirting water at their dog Billy,
The clowns at the circus are very silly.

A NEW SHAWNYU
by John Aaron
age 5
(with a little help from Dad)

Hi my name is Aaron and I like to view
A movie named Mulan with this guy named Shawnyu

He is big, mean and hairy
With real evil eyes that makes him look scary

He does things that are bad,
Fighting and growling, always acting real mad.

The movie leaves him this way,
But I thought one day what it would be like if he decided to pray.

Into my heart Jesus give me a new start
Is what Shawnyu would say.

MY FISH
by Crystal
age 11

My fish was small
My fish was gold
My fish sang silly tunes.
His tunes are gone right now,
and so is his gold color...
now he's bluish green...
maybe its from the chocolate ice cream !

ALONE
by FirstLady

I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO WRITE
I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO READ
I CAN'T GET A JOB
SO IN LIFE I CAN'T SUCCEED!

I'M OUT ON THE STREETS WITH
NOTHING TO EAT
NO CLOTHES ON MY BACK
NO SHOES ON MY FEET

I'M OUT ON THE STREETS
IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER
NO FRIENDS OR FAMILY
GOD, I'M TRYING TO GET
IT TOGETHER

I NEED TO BE FREE
OFF THE STREETS
AND INTO A HOME

CAUSE I CAN'T STAND
TO BE OUT HERE

ALL ALONE!

A Sunset
by Felisha Acevedo
age 10

A Sunset is beautiful,
a sunset is bright,
a sunset takes place,
towards the night.

A sunset is beautiful,
    over the sea,
    with all of its colors,
    staring at me.

A sunset is an end,
to a long hard day,
when all your worries,
wash away.

THE TOY
by Mallory Sullivan

Round and round goes the spining top,
When will it end, when will it stop.

When it's about to slip,
my dad looks like he's going to flip.

Is it because he's gone mad,
or maybe just a little sad.

Has he gone wacko,
because at the door stands Yacko?

Will the toy topple over,
in spite of my little dog Rover?

Suddenly my top fell off the table,
and my dad was screaming 'cause we lost our cable!

THE SUN
by Mbingi
age 13
Nairobi, Kenya

The sun is out early in the morning,
To brighten up the day,
It cheers up those who are mourning,
And from the pain, shows them a way.

Early in the morning,
It wakes us up, yawning.
Helping us to look forward to work,
And after, a nice picnic in the park.

The sun, a beautiful star in the universe,
Looks down and looks after us,
Providing us with bright, warm days,
With a heart that is as warm as its rays.

Dear sun, dear sun, what would we do without you,
Giving us vitamin D to prevent rickets,
Without a bright, warm day, we wouldn’t know what to do.
Thank you dear sun, for times that are the sweetest

rats, rats everywhere
by Elena
age 7 1/2
Bangkok, Thailand

small and furry running everywhere
big and small hopping here and there
searching eyes scrounging for food
never discarding anything for good
squeaking from all corners
eating without manners
thirsty and with no water to drink
fighting each other with noses turning pink
clap!   clap!   here comes the cat
tap!   tap!   it is time to flap.

To My Friends in Fridley
by Melissa B

My friends in Fridley are very special to me
Most of us have been together since grade three

I wish I could move back
But I know I can’t for a fact

I know you guys miss me terribly so
I know you hated to see me go

I miss our weird talks at lunch together
I know that I’ll miss them forever

I know that Monday, November 1st was a horrible day
I wished so much that day I could stay

I’ll even give up a million dimes
Just to see you guys this next time

Gym, I remembered how we all hated to go
When we played basketball, Angie loved it so

Most of us were never in homeroom by the 5-minute bell
Because we disliked it, can’t you tell?

I’m gonna miss you guys forever
Do I always wanna stay here? Never

Now you all can see
You my friends are very special to me.

THE PARK
A Couplet by Ed and Mike

One night I decided to go to the park
I looked outside and saw it was very dark

I took a pigskin football with me,
I threw it and it hit a tree.

I saw a bat come flying out,
I ran and tripped over a tree sprout.

I grabbed my football and went inside
I dreamt about going down a slide.

I HAD A DREAM!
by J. Act

(dedicated to all of the DREAMERS out and about!)

I had a dream one cold night,
I had a dream one cold night,
Oh my I had a dream one cold night
I had a wonderful dream one cold night
Yes, I had a dream
What a wonderful dream it was
There were fairies, a prince, a girl, and all sorts of candy looking people
They were dancing, as if it were a holiday
And at one point there was a fairy named sugar plum fairy that was her name
I had a dream one cold night,
I had a dream one cold night,
Oh my I had a dream one cold night
I woke up and told my mom that I had a dream one cold night
Then I rememberd it was all about "The Nutcracker"

LOVE TO ACT!!
by J. Act

(dedicated to a dear friend, MISSY S)

love to act,
love to act,
oh boy how I love to act!
I love how it is dark on stage before the performance!
I love how the cold air feels when the stage manager opens the curtains
the prop table is all set up
the people on the "Cat Walk" are all ready to go on!
all of the children are scared to go on
one little kid looked outside into the audience and saw all of the people
love to act,
love to act,
oh boy how I love to act!
The show is over, the curtains are closing!
What a beautiful play it was!
How I love to ACT!!!

A CRITTER INVENTION
by Natalie Legra

There once was an elephant,
Who walked with great care,
For as big as he was,
He had to beware.
Not to get near nor be by,
A critter so small,
That would look up to him,
As a giant so tall.
But one day that would all end,
His worries I mean,
For an invention would help him,
So incredible and keen.
This device was created,
By the monkey next door,
Who was sick of the elephants
Terrifying roars.
The date was set up,
When the elephant would test,
The invention from the monkey,
That would be for the best.
Well the date came soon,
The Monkey was prepared,
And the elephant came,
His fears he bared.
(For it was the critters,
That he was ascared.)
What is this invention?
Asked the "gray" to the "brown",
That will give me relief instead of frowns?
I"ll tell you, said the monkey,
Just be patient and calm,
Please sit in this chair while I fetch a palm.
He wrapped up a palm branch,
Round the elephant's head,
And said 'there' my dear friend,
Nothing else to be said.
You look like a lion,
And that friend is grand,
For 'mouses' are scared,
Of that animal brand !

A HUG FOR DADDY
by Arthur

When we were young Daddy had an operation and the children were taken to visit him at the hospital about eighty miles from our home. We visited in his ward and we visited around what was to us a huge hospital complex.

At the end of our visit we hugged and kissed Daddy and were being led away. Suddenly my younger brother broke away and as he ran back to Daddy, he exclaimed, "I'm going to hug my Daddy again!

TRANSPORTATION
by Ashley

Chuga - Chuga   Toot - Toot,
The train is coming through.
Bump - Bump   Honk- Honk,
the car is coming, too!
Then zam-zam   swoosh-swoosh,
The subway's going by.
Even though the subway,
Is hiding from the sky!

A STORY ABOUT MY LITTLE SISTER
by Kaylee

I would like to tell you a story about my little sister. Once when we went to Murdle Beach. My sister found a tree frog by the pool when she was swimming with my Dad and older sister. My Dad told her to put it back in its own environment because God would want it that way.

We started to pack up to go back to the condo and Meghan was crying. When we got back to the condo Dad explained to Mom who was doing the laundry what happened. Then we went to play tennis but my sister decided to stay with Mom.

About an hour passed and Mom realized that Meg was still in her wet bathing suit. And she still was very sad. Mom suggested that she change and get all "cuddly" in pajamas.

When Mom was leaning over to help Meg with her suit, she was very surprised! A frog jumped right at her and hit her in the forehead! It was the tree frog that Dad said that God wanted him in with other frogs. Here she was crying because she knew that she hid the frog and she was afraid that God was going to be angry with her! We made a home for it for the night and then helped Meghan put it back the next day. It was very funny!
