The Creek
by Danny B.

Where does the creek go?
I know--from high to low.

I think and think, but I still
Come up with a missing link.

Under the road, there it goes
I remember barefoot in the cold.

There are salamanders, crayfish,
Snakes, and even a waterfall.

Where does the creek go?
I know--from somewhere high

To somewhere low.

The Flu
by Danny B.

What shall I do
When I have the flu?
I haven't a clue.
I know I'll be
Sad and blue.
I'll be aching
And having a temperature
From my foot to my head
Like the thermometer says.
What shall I do
When I have the flu
But visit the doctor
And soon shine like new.

Alex
by Danny B.

I drop a paper wrapper
And catch a real snapper

When I reach down like a hook
And catch a peanut butter crook

That has a ruff, ruff bark
And teeth like a shark

As his furry fin or tail
Blows across the carpet like a sail.

Scooter
by Danny B.

Scooter is a cat
Who likes to spat.

In spite
Of her bite,

I like to pat
Scooter the orange cat,

If only she'd learn not to spat
Like a good cat.

Angel
by Dixie

I saw an angel in the sky,
she was passing by by by,
very high up in the sky,
not a minute too soon she flew away
with her broom to her room
which was in the sky, very high,
while she was passing by
she didn't know why
she was in the sky so high.

Limericks
by Seana
age 12

There once was a captain from Rome,
who had lost his grandmother's comb.
Grandmother was glum,
so she smacked him on the bum,
til he remembered he'd left it at home.

There once was a man from nopal
who was asked to a fancy dress ball
he decided to risk it
and go as a biscuit
but the dog ate him up in the hall.

Notice Me!
by Nyla
age 12
Oshkosh, WI

I know I'm not real small
I'm in between short and tall
I'm not hiding behind no wall
Does anyone even notice me at all?

My head feels like a locomotive train
The medicine tastes like acid rain
The doctors say the nerve is caused by strain
Do you notice me, that I'm in a lot of pain?

There's a lot of questions in my mind
Is there a chance I'll become blind?
When the x-rays are taken, what will they find?
Notice me now, for the experiment is of a weird kind.

I can't take this anymore, I've had this for over a year
I'm given a challenge, but I only hear one cheer
I'll have the run of my life, and I won't shed a tear
Do you notice me, cause on my face I have the look of fear.

If my class really looks at who I am, I wonder what they would see
They want me to open my mind up, but I only hold the key
My time may be cut short, yet they ask what will I grow up to be
At least I have one friend, and he DOES notice me.

I must be invisible to my teacher
She must think I'm an awful creature
Everyone looks past me as I sit all alone on the bleacher
"They NEVER notice me!" I confess to the preacher.

I wish I could soar up with the birds, and fly
I feel real empty inside, but I don't know why
When my soul is ready, it shall float to the sky
Oh, God notice me, I'm not ready to die.

My cries of pain when the doctors were wrong
Did they actually know, I would live this long?
Before I have to leave, play "Spirit in the sky" for my last song
Please notice me now, it's only a short time, and I'll be gone.

What can I write?
by Georgia M.
age 7
London

What can I write?
shall I write about a shiny pebble sitting on the beach,
or shall I write about beautiful colours,
oh! red and the beautiful turquoise, the yellow of the shiny sun,
or shall I write about the moon,
oh! the beautiful moon that stares at me at night,
or shall I write about autumn when the leaves fall from the trees,
or shall I write about a happy family who live in Hastings by the sea,
or shall I write about a jungle with lots of animals,
a giraffe, an elephant, and a monkey,
what could I write I really do not know
I can't think of anything anymore
so that is it!

You
by Anonymous

Your eyes were like stars
They lit up my life
Your smile was like a sunset
It helped me sleep through the night.

Your hands were like water
So gentle and soft to touch
Your personality was like a rainbow
It shone like the sun
How I miss it so much.

You were my inspiration
And now that you have gone away
Your memory will be
In my heart to stay.

Match Made in Heaven
by Amber

I often wonder what angels are like, but I think I already know
Because I have two of them as my best friends
Let me tell you a story about these two people
And how they’re a match made in heaven.

When you see a perfect couple walking down the street
Have you ever wondered how the two of them could have found each other?
They are so perfect, so similar, yet in some ways so different
But they are a match made in heaven.

I know of a couple such as this, I know a couple full of bliss
Cameron and Chandra, the two sweetest people I know
They both have great personality, and they are such kind people
They are a match made in heaven.

Cameron’s a really sweet guy with extremely good looks
He’s a really caring friend, and he’s always so understanding of everyone
You can tell him anything, he’ll listen to every word you say
An no matter what he does, he’s always so sweet and kind.

Chandra is the special type of person you can tell all your secrets to
She’s extremely friendly, sweet, and very pretty at that
She loves to hang out, and be with her friends
She’s a very caring person, she’s such a great friend.

The two of them together, what a splendid sight to see
In many ways they are so alike, but yet so very different
Yet somehow they go so perfectly together
And become a match made in heaven.

With lots of love and kindness,
I dedicate this poem to you
Cameron and Chandra
With Love from Amber.

I'm Climbing
by Shayla
Age 9

I'm only nine and I have to wear braces
It's a good thing I can tie my shoe laces
I went to Mt. Rushmore to see the Presidents' faces
In the rock they found mineral traces
The weather is so hot I could eat ice cream by the cases
Instead I got sent a truck load of vases
I'm on a winning team and was dealt four aces
I know I can do anything so here I go off to the races

Skool Daze
by Nyla
Age 12

My School's Mascot is a Great Horned Owl
Oh how all the dogs in the neighborhood howl

This is my last year at the Elementary School
Then off to Middle School where I hear they rule

I had a marvelous time in K through 5
I'm just real lucky I've been able to keep alive

It's time to leave the playground of sand
Now I have high hopes of joining the school band

I'm excited about Middle School but I have a little fear
The only reason of that is because of what I hear

My greatest fear is to open my 1st locker
It can't be true, do I HAVE to play SOCCER?

Every morning I'll be in a big rush
For breakfast I'll have that stuff called MUSH

On my way to my classes I hope I won't get lost
And if I do, for heaven sake, let there be no cost

I've had six grand old years
I'm moving on so I won't shed any tears

My heart will be broken, but it shall mend
For my 1st years of school have come to an end

I Had A Dream
by Krissy
Age 12

I dreamed of being a movie star,
I'd have a limo as a car.
I'd be the richest in the town,
I'd walk around wearing a crown.
I dreamed of being a cook,
I'd hide my recipes in a nook.
Don't give up on your dreams,
for they are closer than they seem.

Life
by Krissy
Age 12

Life is big,
some times you feel alone, and afraid,
you want to hide yourself and wear a wig.
Sit in that chair,
and think about the people who care.
The same people who you'll know who will always be there.
The people who care, care, care.
I sit in that chair,
and I wonder if I will ever get there.
I know I will,
my time will come.
So.. I sit there instead of run.
So, whatever you want to be,
or whomever you want to see.
Just sit in that chair, and think about the people who care.
The people who you'll know that will be waiting for you
No matter what you're going through.
Soon enough, Life will take you where you want to be,
and whomever you want to see.
Just sit, there and ask yourself the question.
Will I ever get there?
Because, eventually, you will.
That I call Life.

For The Father Who Wasn't There
by Cherry

We didn't send you a Father's Day card
But what did you expect?
A big kiss and hug?
No, you demanded respect.

After all those years
When we didn't see you,
You come back into our lives
And think that we love you too.

You have hurt us far too much
For us to feel anything but hate.
You should have tried years ago,
But, DAD, you are far too late.
