FIRST BORN

You are a part of my life
And a reflection of my loves and hopes.
You know you are
All I have
That lasts beyond me.
You are all I can always
Give to and trust in.

But I do not always
Show it.
I cannot.
I love you with all of my soul,
And balk at anything
Which makes this love less pure.
Thank you for being a part of my life.

A MOTHER'S RESPITE OUTDOORS

Outdoors is so lovely,
And healthy, and full of life,
And children, with their strollers,
With their crying and their laughter.

The waterfront is so peaceful,
I love to be alone with it for awhile.
The time that I have to myself is
Concentrated and rejuvenating.

I must come out here more often,
To relax by myself,
To be alone with thoughts of
Love and family,
A respite form work and tending to others.

The breeze is so calming.
The walk back home so serene.
I must see the waterfront more often,

Now to home, and on with the chores of daily living,
Happier since my time alone - -
The sunshine, the breeze, and the mist.
I do not want to leave.

I know that I will be back - -
Outdoors in summer heat.
Outdoors in winter frost - -
Alone, and with my loved ones,
Refreshing ourselves through nature,
It is good to be alive.

PLAYMATES

So full of life and vitality
And joy in living
Are the children,
As we adults play at life's games
While talking after dinner.

Their spontaneity delights us
As we strive to enjoy as they do,
So freely and full of love --
Surely we miss our youth.
Will it still haunt us when we are old?

LOVING A CHILD

Loving one's children carries us through the
traumas of life,
Giving direction to hope and planning.
Allowing one the luxury of always being loved.

Loving a child starts long before birth.
From the moment one learns of conception.
The desire for the best for a child is a given,
Even when one loses sight of oneself.

Raising our children challenges and rewards us,
Carrying us past the present as they grow.
The life cycle of loving and caring
Repeats itself with future children.

Thus we live on.

CHILDREN

The peace and innocence of children
Helps keep life more than worthwhile.
And around them there is hope
For the future's solutions.

Their knowledge is truth and trust
And calms the harshness adults have known.

I wish I still were a child.
